I have been studying the works of the Northwest Coast Native Indian masters in the public collections for many years. These photographs are some of my all time favorite works of art. Early in my career I visited many of the public collections, including: The National Museum of the American Indian - Smithsonian Insitution, the Canadian Museum of Civilization, the British Museum, the Seattle Art Museum, the American Museum of Natural History, the BC Provincial Museum, the UBC Museum of Anthropology, the Chicago Fielf Museum, the U'Mista Cultural Centre and the Peabody Museum. I learnt a great deal about Northwest coast Native art by studying the works of the old masters, but most of all I learned to appreciate the abilities of those great artists who worked before power tools, magnifying lenses and most importantly, artificial light.
